ETH research duo wins European Inventor Award
Zurich – The European Patent Office has awarded the European Inventor Award 2021 to Wendelin Stark and Robert Grass. The ETH research duo devised a process whereby data can be stored and protected as DNA in tiny glass beads. These are 10,000 times thinner than a sheet of paper.
Anapaya secures investment of 6.8 million francs
Zurich - Anapaya has secured investment totaling 6.8 million Swiss francs from SIX Fintech Ventures. Anapaya intends to use this fresh capital to further develop its SCION-based solutions and to fund international expansion plans. This internet protocol promises to deliver cybersecurity and network control.
German cardiac center putting the Myosuit to the test
Zurich/Berlin - The German Heart Institute Berlin is the first organization in the world to investigate the benefits of the Myosuit for heart failure patients. The researchers hope that it will lead to a significant increase in quality of life. The exoskeleton was developed by the Swiss MedTech firm MyoSwiss.
W.A. de Vigier Foundation awards start-ups
Solothurn - The W.A. de Vigier Foundation has given awards to six start-ups, three of which come from the Greater Zurich Area. They convinced the foundation with sustainable clothing, intelligent lighting and data processing chips, among other things.
New consortium with pharmaceutical giants
Schlieren ZH - InSphero is joining forces with companies such as Pfizer, Sanofi and Genentech. The partners plan to better investigate the potential negative effects of new medicinal products on the liver. 3D microtissues created by the start-up based in the Greater Zurich Area are being used for this.
Westhive expanding in Greater Zurich Area
Zurich/Zug – Zurich-based coworking space provider Westhive intends to open a new site in the Tech Cluster Zug in summer 2022. Here, it will offer flexible workspace and conference rooms. A coffee bar and gym are also planned.
Agire Foundation creates innovation platform for SMEs
Manno TI – The Agire Foundation has launched a new online platform, Scouting Days Agire. This enables SMEs from the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland to start a “call for innovation” to find inventors, researchers, project partners and investors for their own innovations.

Zurich/Santa Clara - Modum, the specialist in last mile-focused cold chain monitoring, has been taken over by Roambee. With this acquisition, the Silicon Valley logistics firm intends to expand its offering to include cold chain transparency.
