Zurich/Davos - The University of Zurich (UZH) is in the process of establishing a Chair for Allergology and Asthma at the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research in Davos. This step represents a commitment to bolstering the canton of Graubünden’s reputation as a research location.

The University of Zurich (UZH) is establishing a Chair for Allergology and Asthma at the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF). As detailed in a press release, the agreement between the university and the cantonal government of the canton of Graubünden is intended to boost Davos as a location for science in addition to strengthening the canton’s reputation in the fields of research and innovation. The establishment of the new chair will not only serve to promote research and teaching but will also create attractive new jobs. The agreement comes as part of the integrated research, education and innovation strategy and is included among the development focus areas of the strategic program pursued by the Graubünden cantonal government, as UZH writes in the press release.

The chair is now part of the UZH Faculty of Medicine’s strategy. “It is a very important chair in terms of its content and fits perfectly into UZH’s strategy”, comments UZH President Prof. Michael Schaepman, in the press release, adding that: “It will enable us to strengthen our leadership in the field of allergology and the SIAF in Davos in the long term”.

“This agreement between the canton of Graubünden and the University of Zurich is a groundbreaking milestone in the cross-cantonal partnership to strengthen Graubünden as a center of research”, as Dr. Jon Domenic Parolini, President of the Cantonal Government and Head of the Department of Education, Culture and Environmental Protection, explains in the press release. In another step, a research center for translational medicine is to be created in Davos. ce/ww
