Lugano/Manno - The Boldbrain Startup Challenge has named the 20 startups that will receive support in the seventh edition of the incubator in Manno in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The companies hail from the ICT, medtech, energy and cleantech sectors as well as finance and insurance technology.

Twenty startups have been selected for the seventh edition of the Boldbrain Startup Challenge. Of the 95 applications received, 61 met the requirements. The selection criteria ranged from the value of the idea and its scalability to the degree of innovation, the quality of the business model and the team. Another factor was willingness to develop the respective company in Ticino.

According to a statement, the successful applicants include a variety of projects from the information and communication technologies (ICT), medtech, energy and cleantech, fintech and insurance sectors. This diversity emphasizes Boldbrain's commitment to promoting innovation in various areas, it writes. The funding programme is run by Fondazione Agire in collaboration with the USI Startup Centre. It is supported and financed by the cantonal Department of Finance and Economic Affairs. The official sponsor is BancaStato.

On average, the teams consist of three members. Fifteen of the 20 startups are from Switzerland, including 11 from the canton of Ticino. The three-month acceleration programme starts on 29 August at Suglio Business Center in Manno, where Fondazione Agire has its headquarters. Coaches will support the startups in applying the tools they learn in five planned workshops, and help them develop a business plan. The incubator will round off with an awards ceremony on 4 December at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano, where ten finalists will present their projects and compete for cash prizes worth a total of 120,000 Swiss francs as well as non-cash prizes worth over 80,000 Swiss francs. ce/mm
